The incessant power cuts have prompted authorities in Manipur to install solar power panels for the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at various strategic points of Imphal city. However, technical glitches mar the traffic lighting systems which are also powered by solar panels.
The solar panels in CCTVs are in addition to the dedicated power supply lines. Three new junctions Kangla Western Gate, Singjamei and Kwakeithel in Imphal city recently had the solar powered traffic lighting system installed. However, many traffic lighting systems are paralyzed after its components are damaged in accidents where vehicles ram into the systems.
