PSPCL signs biomass PPA with distillery for biomass project

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has signed an agreement to buy 6.5 MW electricity from the biomass project of NV distilleries and breweries for next 25 years.

Informing the development, PSPCL chairman and managing director KD Chaudhri said Rs. 3,500 crore will be spent to upgrade the power infrastructure in next two years in the state and the state may turn power surplus in 2014.

NV distilleries and breweries will produce 10 MW of biomass power at its plant in Rajpura, expected to be commissioned next month attracting investment worth Rs. 50 crore. Chaudhri also said that aggregate technical and commercial losses of PSPCL on distribution are second lowest in the nation, behind Andhra Pradesh only.
