Giving a fillip to the green initiative of India, the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd has requested its dealers to run petrol pumps on solar energy. The company had recently organised a seminar-cum-demonstration on solar energy solutions that was followed by a pilot demonstration at a company owned and operated petrol station in Pune.
Nearly 50 dealers, who operate fuel stations in rural areas with intermittent supply of power, participated in the event. “Converting to solar power is the answer to fighting the menace of load shedding. By doing this, the dealer will not only save on the recurring costs of electricity and generator expenses but will also ensure continued and uninterrupted supply to the customers,” Shyam Bohra, Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager of Pune section said.
Switching to solar energy would free from them from adverse effects of load shedding and help save over 70 per cent on electricity and diesel genset bills, Narendra Gangakhedkar, Manager, Xtrareward, IOCL-Pune said.
The presentation also showcased how the dealers can claim dual benefits of 30 per cent Government subsidy and 80 per cent depreciation benefit by switching to solar. Srinergy-Sharvani, a US-based company, who has already installed solar PV systems at IOCL fuel station in Nashik in Maharashtra, was selected by IOCL to conduct the demonstration.
