India fifth largest producer of wind energy: Farooq Abdullah

Producing electricity from wind energy has gained momentum globally in the recent times, and India too has performed remarkably well by finding a place in the top five global leaders in wind power generations, according to Dr Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Speaking at the launch of the 2nd All India Educational Campaign on ‘Empowerment through Values and Spirituality’ and ‘Clean the Mind and Green the Earth’ campaign in New Delhi, Dr. Abdullah stressed that utmost effort is being made to make India an eco-friendly nation. The minister said that research is going on to create energy using heat from the sun, wind speed and other natural resources and ensure access to electricity for all.

Amid concerns of dwindling fossil fuel reserves and issues of climate change, India has put emphasis on harnessing power from renewable sources of energy, and seems to be quite on track to attain the goals set by the government.
