Borg India launches solar generator

Alternative energy firm Borg Inc. entered the Indian market through Borg India, its subsidiary, with the launch of solar power generators aimed for the residential market segment.

“The ‘Astra Smart Grid Series’ being introduced offers what we call a grid-fallback system, which uses solar power during the day to save the cost of grid power,” Boaz Augustin, Chairman and Managing Director of Borg India said.

Augustin was addressing media persons at the formal launch of the Astra series – the smart grid equipment runs on grid power when solar power is unavailable, but uses solar power whenever sunlight is available.

While the initial product line-up, expected to be available over the next two weeks, is aimed at homes, Borg India will soon introduce solar power solutions for the commercial and agricultural segments as well.

“The range has four different products — Basic unit (500 watts), the Prime (800 watts) the Silver (1,000 watts), and Gold (2,500 watts). The pricing will be Rs.48, 000, Rs.87, 000, Rs.1.59 lakh and Rs.2.58 lakh, respectively,” Augustin said. The company has set up a distributor network across Tamil Nadu and would be expanded to other parts of India over the next six months.
