Bharti Infratel partners OMC power for RE-based power solutions

Bharti Infratel has teamed up with OMC Power, a renewable energy service company to power its off-grid and poor grid telecom tower sites in rural areas using renewable energy. The move is in lines with the company’s green energy drive to promote use of renewable sources actively to power its towers.

Bharti Infratel is the tower arm of Bharti Airtel and operates in seven out of the 22 regions in India with about 33,000 towers, 9000 of which are in off-grid or poor grid locations. OMC is a power company that funds, builds, operates and maintains micropower plants so as to facilitate electricity purchase for the tower companies and telcos.

Under the 10 years partnership with Infratel, OMC will set up micropower off-grid and low grid locations plants that will generate electricity, using renewable sources and energise Infratel’s tower sites, thereby reducing dependence on diesel gensets.
